R22 Baffle Tanks

05-14-2013 05:03:35

Anyone know any details about Baffled Fuel Tanks supposedly coming out for the R22 soon?

I heard a rumor that aircraft are being produced with the new tanks now, overhaul kits will be including this item soon, and I'm guessing it will be a Service Bulletin of some sort, to start out with?

My source said my almost 30 gallon total capacity, will drop to something like 22 gallons with both tanks, and since the tanks will be heavier, I guess I'll be losing some payload too?

Oh yeah, lets not forget about the repainting I'll need on my flawless older paint job, since my machine is not Robinson White.

Robinson wants everyone to play now !!!

Service Bulletin SB-109 just out today (January 8, 2014http://robinsonheli.com/service_library/r22_service_bulletins/r22_sb109.pdf

Drops us down to 26.3 gallons from my current 29.7 (My aircraft has the Aux. Fuel Tank like most Beta II's) !!!

What's another $10,000 or so (with discounts, labor, and painting I'm guessing) between friends ???

There are actually some "nice" differences here between the R44 SB-78 and the new SB 109 for the R22.  Primarily, for the time being, there are no steadfast compliance deadlines- rather the installation can be completed as part of the 2200 hour/12 Year inspection.  This is when most R44 operators elected to do it anyway unless flying part 135.

Bladder tanks went into the 44 and 66, you had to know the 22 was going to get them sooner or later.  I do like the fact that they don't have to go in till the overhaul, that is what should have been done with the 44 bladder tank SB.

First set of R22 Bladder tanks ordered and on the way, along with the 27 pages of installation instructions!
