R44 STC for autofuel

09-17-2012 08:33:37

EASA in Europe has just approved the use of autogas in a R44 Raven 1. Looks like a lot of interest over here but quite some people are not 100% sure that this is a safe way to go. Do you have some experience in using autogas in a R44? We would be very interested to hear your experiences and to understand if we need to pay attention to special circumstances (height, temp, ??). Thanks a lot

Please be aware that some, if not all, of the STC's require auto fuel with no alcohol content, which can be hard to find in some areas.  The use of fuel with alcohol will void the STC.

Melvyn, I couldnt get your link to work properly.  Looks to me like their link needs updating.

I found a couple others.

The place to order. http://jtiair.com/autogas.htm
some background info. http://www.autofuelstc.com/autofuelstc/pa/Start_Here.html

some interesting info from the JTI website.

Use auto gas in your helicopter to gain fuel savings and increase engine power. The STC pays for itself in less than 50 hours of operation on autogas. And you don't have to make any engine modifications to eligible models (Robinson R22 HP, Alpha, Beta, Mariner, R22 Beta II, R44 Astro, Clipper, Raven I; and Schweizer 269C-1).

Wayne Mulgrew used our STC and 91-octane automotive gasoline in his Robinson R22 to set an FAI altitude record of over 19,000 feet.

Click here to order your STC today, and see the fuel savings and increased engine power and efficiency in your helicopter.

Anyone interested in trying to beat 19K' in their R-22????

Not hard to find.... Almost IMPOSSIBLE to find. I have looked everywhere and have been told the only way I could get Gasoline with no alcohol would be to buy it in 10,000 gallon increments. Most localities have regulations witch require the additive. If anyone knows how you can get this kind of gas let me know otherwise to be frank the STC is not worth a penny.
