I heard from a friend of mine that the only R44 to have this done was grounded by the FAA. I was looking at doing the same in my R44 and using Howard Aviation in LA to do the work and he told me that the feds grounded the 44 and forced them to start on a single serial STC in order to fly it again.

Not sure what the particulars are, but I have had a lot of experience trying to get various glass cockpits installed in my two helicopters (R44 and MD500) and in both cases after a huge amount of work I have been shot down by the FAA stating an absolute requirement for an STC as opposed to a FA.

Be very careful before spending any money with anyone telling you that you can get a Field Approval on any replacement (or addition) of an AI!!

It's good to hear from you again Richard.

I'm pretty sure it's all good to go, as I talked to these guys a couple of days ago, who have it in an R22 for training and they said they liked it very much: http://specializedheli.com/training/r22gt.aspx

It's for sale in the US here: http://www.r22r44.com/avionics.html

The Sagem Glass Cockpit solution is indeed still very much alive and kicking.
It comes in two models the R22-GT Glass Trainer and the R44 Grand with the R66 on the Drawing board.

It has been Certified with the FAA (and never been grounded ! ) and Transport Canada since 2008 and now has Brazilian Certification too.
The STC's are all held by ASAP Avionics in British Columbia which continues to provide Advanced Solutions to the helicopter industry.
