The right time to sell

02-04-2014 04:39:40

I have a 2006 Raven II with about 650 hours on it. I'm the second owner since new, and both of us have been private operators flying it for fun and transportation. No training, no rides--very clean bird with the bladders done, AC, good avionics.

I will obviously never get close to the 2200 hour overhaul, but will hit the 12 year calendar time in 4 years. Here's my question - I plan on selling this bird and buying a newer one before I get too close to overhaul. When is the right time to sell? I assume if I sell it in 2017 I won't do too well on it; but with such low hours I would assume someone would find it to be a good investment.

So what's the right time? Any advice?

OK, it been awhile for me as well, I sold my 44 a year or so ago with only 5 months till the 12 year and 800 hrs left, and bought a 206, I just got out almost even good thing I bought it right!
The only one who is going to be able to use up the time is someone doing training on it, If you don't intend to keep it and do the overhaul the sooner you sell the better , my opinion, if you want to recover as much $$ as you can.
On a side note- love the 206 but do miss the 44, one of each would be perfect  8)

Hi Guys,
take into account that I'm in Europe and the market here is different from that in the US, and also varies a lot from country to country.
This said, I think it is about time to start to think about a sale. My idea is that if you leave a new owner more than enough time to use up all the remaining hours he'll consider them for their value.
My two cents.

Sell it right now. If you get too close to the 12 year deal your value and prospects plunge.

Thanks for the advice. I may buy new or a newer used one. When did the new blades start going on R44s? Bladders?
